Trilobites are an extinct species of marine creature, the earliest of which lived around 520 million years ago. They died out approx 250 million years ago in a mass extinction - the most severe Earth has ever had (known as the Great Dying), when a large proportion of marine and terrestrial life was wiped out. Trilobite fossils have been found all over the world and approx 17,000 different species have been identified. Below is a quarry in Russia where some of our trilobites were found.
