Somerset Nautilus polished halves

This Nautilus has been cut thru and the cut surfaces polished to reveal the structure of the inner chambers, with some hollow chambers showing calcite crystals. The centre is defined in darker calcite.

The reverse is partly covered by matrix and the remainder cleaned to show the whorls on one half, and hollow chambers on the other. The halves measures approx H 9.5 x 8 x D 2.5 cm. The Nautilus comes from Ilminster in Somerset and is approx 170 million years old.
